Case study
Canyon Bicycles
Cloudinary integration for configurable bikes, connected customer experiences, and the tooling behind SFCC releases.
My role: Senior SFCC engineer
canyon.comThe challenge
A configurable bike needs more than a standard product page. Shoppers can change components such as wheels, saddle, seatpost, cockpit, and frame size. The storefront has to present those choices clearly and show the bike they are configuring, while keeping product and inventory behavior consistent through the buying journey.
Alongside that customer experience, Canyon’s international storefront needed ongoing account features, app integrations, and a dependable process for building and releasing changes.
My role
I worked on Canyon through DEPT and then Compe10ce, combining SFCC/SFRA development with integration ownership and release engineering. I owned the Cloudinary integration for storefront and configurator media, contributed to the wider configuration experience, and worked extensively on account pages and delivery tooling.
Media that follows the configuration
I built the Cloudinary integration around dynamic image URLs, image scaling, and asset management. For customizable bikes, this included generating animation sequences and imagery for the configuration experience.
The work connected a complex product-selection journey to its visual presentation: shoppers could explore configurable bikes with media reflecting their choices. I also worked on transformation preferences, image versioning, category imagery, and video behavior across the storefront.
Customer accounts and connected applications
I worked on My Account page redesign tasks and extended OCAPI responses and custom endpoints for connected applications. These covered customer-facing use cases such as bike information, product details, order history, and spare-parts discovery.
Supporting work included account-session handling and order-list behavior, where storefront state and API responses needed to stay consistent.
Building and releasing the storefront
I developed and maintained build commands, Webpack configuration, and Bitbucket Pipelines, including integrations with Jira deployment tracking. My release work covered branching, deployment procedures, code-version tooling, and production troubleshooting.
I also contributed bundle checks and storefront loading improvements, including changes to product-page modules and lazy-loaded content.
What the work enabled
- A configurable-bike experience supported by dynamic imagery and animation sequences.
- Reusable media controls for storefront images and video.
- Customer-account and connected-app functionality backed by SFCC APIs.
- Automated build and deployment steps supporting ongoing storefront releases.
This engagement brought together customer-facing development, a substantial media integration, and the operational work needed to maintain an evolving commerce platform.
