Case study

Confidential US retail project

SFRA modernization, express payments, marketplace feeds, and checkout reliability for a US retailer.

My role: SFCC / SFRA engineer

The challenge

The retailer needed to evolve an established SFRA storefront while supporting everyday checkout, store pickup, and additional sales channels. The work combined platform upgrades with payment behavior, product and inventory feeds, and production troubleshooting.

My contribution

I worked across payment development, marketplace integrations, and platform tooling. This project is presented anonymously to respect client confidentiality.

Modernization and express payments

On the SFRA upgrade work, I separated retailer-specific customizations into overlay cartridges so vendor integrations could be maintained independently. I owned the CyberSource and Google Pay work within that upgrade, including express payment flows from product pages, cart, and checkout.

Key implementation challenges included store-pickup context, guest checkout, and keeping the amount shown in the wallet aligned with the server-calculated order total. The broader upgrade followed a phased rollout; this contribution covered payment and architecture development within that program.

Marketplace and customer data

I developed and operated product and store-inventory feed integrations for marketplace channels. The work covered assortment rules, promotional pricing, data transformations, scheduled delivery, and rollout support.

I also built historical order-export jobs for a CRM integration, allowing past purchase data to be processed separately from ongoing order exports.

Checkout reliability

I investigated and corrected wallet and checkout failure paths, including expired sessions, missing baskets, address validation, and store-pickup state. Supporting platform work included build and deployment automation, cartridge cleanup, and application documentation.

What the work enabled

  • Express-payment functionality developed for the SFRA upgrade program.
  • Clear separation between vendor cartridges and retailer customizations.
  • Catalog and inventory delivery to marketplace channels.
  • Historical purchase exports and targeted fixes for checkout edge cases.

This project reflects the breadth of a contract engagement where development, integrations, and production support need to work together.
